Vacancy Job Title; Specialist Support Worker

Vacancy Location; Gateshead

Number of hours available; 12 hours per week

Shift pattern available; Set shifts across a weekly rota; Monday and Wednesday 15.30-21.30, additional hours may be available during times of annual leave and sick absence.

Desirable Criteria; Experience of living with or supporting / administering medication for individuals who have epilepsy.

Role Specific Information; The young person we support is 18 years old, he has Complex Epilepsy and staff need to be resilient and remain unflustered during any episodes, he also has Autism and lives at home with parents. He is a remarkable individual with a dedicated team committed to helping and supporting him.

He requires 2:1 support in his home and also in the community. There are clinical and personal care needs; including a PEG for nutrition and medication. He has Vagus Nerve Stimulation therapy for his Epilepsy, and is registered blind, and therefore requires support with all aspects of daily life.

Due to frequent drop seizures and being registered blind, he likes to have someone close to him at all times and needs lots of reassurance. His autism and learning disabilities, require new staff members to have excellent communication skills with clear and concise speaking, this is an essential criteria for joining his staffing team.

Around his daily care needs, he also loves listening to music, swinging in his hammock, and getting out into the community.
